Yes, I became aware of oxalates as part of my recovery research, and it’s possible that oxalates, as well as lectins and other plant defenses are either the main issue, or a contributing factor. But the deeper I went it seemed as if the science wasn’t conclusive yet. Also, depending on what resource, certain plants could be classified as low, medium or high depending on the resource you used.

One clear way to avoid all oxalates and plant lectins was going full carnivore. Since I was my own guinea pig, you can understand why I might be reluctant to eat high oxalate plants just to figure out if they were the issue. Eating mainly meat I have no issues. I add the occasional plant-based food, just to see how I tolerate it. What I’ve found is having a mainly meat diet seems to be protective, and allows me to eat some plant-based foods without issue.
